Texas voter registration is a paper form, not an online form. The deadline lands 30 days before election day, and Travis County's tax office processes it.

Short answer

Texas has no online voter registration. You fill the state form, sign it, and mail or drop it at the Travis County Voter Registrar (the tax office) at least 30 days before the election. Already registered? Check your status online before any deadline.

Who this is for

New Austin residents, new voters, and anyone who moved within Texas and needs to update their registration.

The steps, in order

  1. Check your current registration status online first; a move within the county may only need an update.
  2. Fill out the Texas voter registration application completely and sign it.
  3. Mail or hand-deliver it to the Travis County Voter Registrar at least 30 days before election day.
  4. Watch for your registration certificate in the mail and check that the details are right.
  5. New to Texas? Registering here ends your old state's registration when you confirm the move.

Have this ready

  • A Texas ID or the last four of your Social Security number for the form
  • Your current Austin address
  • A printer or a paper form from a library or post office

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Missing the 30-day deadline and assuming election-day registration exists; Texas does not have it.
  • Moving within Texas and not updating; your ballot follows your registered address.
