Am I in the City of Houston? · Houston Untangled
Are you in the City of Houston?
Check any Houston-area address against the official city limit the City of Houston publishes - the line that decides which rules, taxes, and services apply.
Common questions
Why does the Houston city limit matter?
It decides which rules apply to things like noise, permits, and trash service, and whether Houston 311 covers the address. Houston's limit leaves out many places with Houston mailing addresses - a Houston ZIP code does not mean City of Houston.
My mail says Houston. Why does this say outside?
Mailing-city names come from the post office, not the city boundary. Large parts of the Houston metro with Houston addresses are actually in Harris County or another city. The boundary layer here is the one the City of Houston publishes.
Does this check filing or taxes?
No. This is a public-record lookup only. For property taxes, check the Harris County Appraisal District record for the address.
